Steel sculpture "Crato" with concrete base - abstract poetry with an antique flair

An abstract geometric composition consisting of a large central semi-circle and several smaller doppelgangers of the same, which are grouped around the centre in a loose, playfully light-looking group: This is how our "Crato" sculpture, available in two sizes and several versions for the concrete base and the steel finish, presents itself.

Its silhouette is indeed somewhat reminiscent of a "crater", the ancient drinking vessel immortalised in countless depictions and documented by finds, symbolising the millennia-old human need to socialise and be together with others. The raw steel with the visible imprints of the tools used to make it emphasises the archaic character of the sculpture. Do you prefer it a little more "refined"? On request, we can provide "Crato" with a matt gold-coloured metallic paint ex works, which gives the steel construction the appearance of solid bronze or even goldsmith's work.

Set up in the room, "Crato" unfolds its full range of possible effects either individually or in pairs. The simple, clear and abstract form offers a perfect projection surface that constantly creates new interpretations before the eye of the beholder and under the influence of changing light conditions. Dancing semicircles, a crescent moon surrounded by clouds, boats drifting on the water: whatever you see when you look at the sculpture - it's there!

We manufacture "Crato" exclusively for you by hand in our CO33 workshop. The concrete base, available in a choice of dark anthracite or classic light concrete grey, is made of exactly the same high-quality concrete as our designer furniture and was deliberately left with its original, rough "earthy" texture to create an attractive contrast to the smooth, cool surface of the steel sculpture.
