"Scalae" - filigree steel sculpture with concrete base: the geometry of nature

A fine grid of lines runs through a narrow steel frame; the lines run in all directions, without a recognisable grid, visually dividing the frame and at the same time combining to form ever new geometric figures before the eye of the beholder: this is "Scalae". Although the artistic steel sculpture has no curves whatsoever - the entire construction consists only of lines, corners and edges - "Scalae" has something organic about its overall effect. It is reminiscent of the ramified branches of a tree, framed by the view from a window or perhaps through a camera lens. Wasn't there a movement in the branches just before we pressed the shutter release to preserve the moment? Perhaps the dreamiest of our decorative sculptures, but certainly the most delicate, "Scalae" with its delicate-looking steel struts, which is once again literally "grounded" by a robust concrete base, blends into both a modern and a more classic living environment.

The external delicacy can easily make you forget that this sculpture is also made from solid, hardened industrial steel. Whether in the untreated version with its dark grey metal surface, which still visibly bears the traces of the artist's tools that were used to create it, or completely smooth, refined with a finish of gold-coloured lacquer that seemingly transforms "Scalae" into a bronze sculpture: Each design has its own special charm, which unfolds in conjunction with the chosen installation location. To show off the filigree shapes to their best advantage, it is advisable to place the steel sculpture in a visually calm environment, e.g. in front of a white wall or other monochrome background. You can also make use of the effect of harmonising or contrasting colours!

The 15 x 15 cm concrete cube, which serves as the base for "Scalae", can also be part of the staging: its robust appearance with the raw concrete surface forms an exciting contrast to the delicate metal struts with their natural look and sets its own colour accents in its two versions in traditional concrete grey or elegant, almost black-looking slate grey.

The sculpture and base are individually handcrafted in our CO33 workshop, with each piece being unique in its own right. With a width of 25 cm and a height of approx. 64 or 48 cm, "Scalae" is also available in two sizes and can therefore be placed as a pair or individually.
